“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as who you become by achieving your goals”
– Zig Ziglar
For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Heather Clark. I’m also known as “Fergie” – a nickname I was given on the world tour.
I was born and bred in Port Shepstone, a little town on the South Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.
I started surfing at the age of 16 and was fortunate to become one of South Africa’s most decorated female surfers.
I went from surfing in provincial and national contests to
competing in international contests and representing South Africa at the Open and Masters World Games. In 2000 I became the first and only South African, male or female, to ever win the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing – by far one of my most memorable achievements.
I spent 14 years on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, 8 of which were spent on the World Championship Tour (WCT) which consists on the top 16 girls in the world. I made many finals and numerous victories on tour.
During that time I had the privilege of traveling with some of the top surfers in the world and surfing some of the best and most challenging waves on the planet like Tahiti’s Teahupoo, Fiji’s Cloudbreak, Hawaii, Jeffrey’s Bay and many more.
Now I give back to the sport I live and love.
